Manigong Bagong Taon!!!
That, my friends, is Happy New Year in Tagalog, the national language of the Philippines. Now you know how to greet each other in a whole new different language - hahaha. Along with that greeting comes my fervent wish that all of us have peace, prosperity and good health in the years to come. This poem fits the bill nicely:
May there always be work for your hands to do;
May your purse always hold a coin or two.
May the sun always shine on your windowpane;
May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain.
May the hand of a friend always be near you;
And may God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.
All year through!!!
As an aside, did you all get to see Saddam's execution on TV yesterday? He was defiant till the very end, refusing to have a cloth over his head while he was hung. His death should put to a close a very grisly chapter in the lives of his countrymen, and of the Kurds whom he treated with such barbaric brazenness. I pray that the families of his victims can now finally find peace. I couldn't post the actual hanging here (am much too squeamish) but if you would like to see the actual footage, just drop by my friend's site.
Today is also my beloved mom's birthday. Above is a recent photo of her and my niece Soleil. Isn't she just so lucky to have everyone else setting off fireworks, having parties, dancing in the streets and generally making a lot of noise on her natal day? Happy birthday, mom! We love you!

The clock there has my time on it, so I don't know if it's the new year for you there where you are, but happy new year to you and happy birthday to your mom!!
