Christmas 2005 Meme
Borrowed this from Aginoth's previous blog. Thought it would be fun to do in keeping with the spirit of the season.
1. Real or fake (tree obviously !!!)
We have 2 trees, one for inside the house and another one on the landing directly outside our door. Nobody ever has real trees here in our country, except maybe those living in the mountains.
2. Do you decorate the outside of your house?
Yep. We use decor from inside the house, usually still in very good condition, which we don't want to see again for another year. Same pattern continues every year, with the previous year's inside decor being passed on to the outside. We have a parol (lighted christmas lantern), a nativity scene, lights galore and little streamers.
3. When do you put the decorations up?
I am an avowed Christmas nut and want to relish the Christmas trimmings for as long as I can. As soon as All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day are over, I already bug my mom to have the decor brought out from the attic so I can put them up. By November 4th or 5th, we're all done and we don't take them down till after the Feast of the Three Kings which is on or before January 6th. :)
4. When do you open your presents?
Christmas Morning, immediately after Noche Buena. Noche Buena is the traditional meal which Filipino families the world over have at the stroke of midnight. Eating together is a way to celebrate the family's blessings, akin to how we all go to mass at 9pm Christmas Eve. More often than not, it becomes an instant reunion as extended members of the family usually come over to partake of the feast. After all the dining and much storytelling, it's gift-giving time.
5. What sits on top of your tree?
A big beautiful lighted angel all dressed in white.
6. Has it got to be turkey for Christmas dinner?
It is usually Spanish cuisine at our house. We have paella valenciana, lengua estofado, salpicao, kaldereta, kare-kare and the like. And boy, the desserts! Canonigo plus various cakes and cookies given by friends and family.
7. What time do you get up on Christmas day? What's the earliest you ever got up?
Since we usually wait for all the fireworks to finish and for all gifts to be opened (complete with picture-taking), Christmas celebration itself doesn't end till 4 or 5 o'clock in the morning. Naturally, we all get to sleep in till probably 9 or 10am.
8. Have you been naughty or nice this year?
Definitely mostly nice. But check with Santa first to make sure. *wink*wink*
9. Have you written your letter to Santa yet?
Nope. I believe Santa already knows my wishlist (hehehe).
10. What will you ask Santa for this year?
Mostly gadgets! Some of those on my list are a new digital camera, the magic sing (karaoke microphone which has a chip that contains more than 2,000 songs), an ipod nano and a flat-screen tv. Might as well let 'em know what I want from the start.
11. Should Santa be encouraged to drink and drive by being left out a glass of brandy or similar?
Hey, Santa's got the right to be merry, too...Besides, aren't those reindeer on auto-pilot?
12. If you could be anywhere with anyone at Christmas where and who would it be?
At home with my family. There's nowhere else I'd rather be when celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.
