New Sensation
As you may have guessed, this post is about INXS, or rather, the new CBS reality show which I became hooked on beginning last night. Got to catch the premiere episode of Rock Star: INXS which follows 15 wanna-be rockstars in their quest to be the new lead singer of the legendary rock band. Although Michael Hutchence is irreplaceable, the remaining band members still have got a little bit rock and roll left in them hence, the search for a new frontman/woman.
It plays out very much like American Idol but this time around, the aspirants live in an LA mansion, strive to outperform each other every single night and get to hear the good/bad news directly from INXS and Dave Navarro of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Brooke Burke of E!Wild On fame hosts. Downright cool if you ask me. There'll be two live episodes tonight and tomorrow night. Whichever lucky dude/dudette gets chosen will surely live like rock royalty (picture Mick Jagger or David Bowie).
The show got off on the right foot as the producers had the good sense to make Dana Robbins, the creepy girl who channeled a howling banshee, its' first casualty. Of the lot, I like Ty Taylor so far. He is comfortable in his own skin and exudes a certain vibe. And get this: one of the finalists is 35-year-old Mig Ayesa who was born in Manila, raised in Sydney and currently residing in London. Rumors have it that he is an early favorite. That remains to be seen...Hooweee. Snaps for the Pinoy artist once again. Read up on the motley crew of musicians here.
Also got my first taste of Desperate Housewives (it immediately followed RSI on Star World). Frankly, it was quite an ordeal to stay on till the end credits. The much-hyped series appeared to be a cross between Twin Peaks and Six Feet Under. Acting was hammy and the ladies are straight out of Valley Of The Dolls/Stepford Wives. Wisteria Lane and its residents just don't do a thing for me. Give me Melrose Place anytime. Dallas or Falcon Crest even...
