Down The Wire
Two of my favorite reality TV shows are coming to their end this week: American Idol and The Contender. Two worthy protagonists on each side and to the victor will go the spoils. Here are my hopeful predictions...
In AI, my heart has long been sold lock, stock and barrel to Bo Bice. C'mon, don't you think this wannabe rocker deserves his shot at stardom? Carrie Underwood has talent but you can get multitudes of young, blond singers anywhere in LA nowadays. Someone with Bo's uniqueness hasn't come along in a long while. I just pray the judges and the viewing public realize it as well. Take a peek: http://www.idolonfox.com/
The Contender was a much more difficult choice. Each week that a fighter got eliminated made me feel sad. Some of them got beat up real bad. That wasn't the worst, though. It was heartbreaking mostly because the losers had to go back to their previous lives where they and their families had to learn to thrive in bad neighborhoods, were in financial straits and had to toil hard for a small measure of respect each and every day. The pugilists who earned the right to fight for a cool mil and a chance to change their lives forever are Peter Manfredo Jr. and Sergio Mora. Here are their stats:
PETER
Record: W 24, L 1, Draw 0, KO 10

SERGIO
Record: W 15, L 0, Draw 0, KO 3
http://www.nbc.com/nbc/The_Contender/boxers/sergio.shtml This time around, I will be pulling for Sergio. He is a smart fighter - quick and powerful. Plus it doesn't hurt that he's an overall nice guy. He isn't ashamed to tell the world he loves his mother! Ringside at Caesar's Palace this weekend must be the penultimate place to be for those who have been following the show religiously. Sigh. Too bad I can't be there to watch the match live. Ratings should go through the roof for these two shows. Viewership might even surpass that of the last season of the Amazing Race where we rejoiced when the much-loved team of Uchenna and Joyce prevailed over the highly envied duo of Rob and Amber.
