Welcome To My Life
This entry's title is in homage of Simple Plan. After the concert last Thursday, I have officially become a fan. I liked their songs before because of the catchy tunes and pretty good lyrics but have a better appreciation for them now. Those five Canadian dudes know how to rock! This ticket should have given them shared billing with Avril Lavigne:
They were supposed to be "just the front act" but ended up gaining thousands of converts when the night ended - myself included. From the first riff of the guitar, people were instantly on their feet and our tushies never even met the plastic of the chairs we were supposed to plant them in for the rest of the three- hour event. They played all their hit songs (and I mean ALL) so the concert turned out to be a double-bill and was worth every penny of what everyone paid for and more. Pierre and Sebastian had this ongoing banter between shows that kept the audience (most specially the girls) screaming. Sebastian even tried out the requisite "mahal ko kayong lahat" and a few other Filipino phrases which was eaten up despite having been obviously thrown in to elicit such reactions. That is what made such a marked contrast when it was Avril's turn onstage. She immediately launched into song after song, seemingly without even "scripted" lines to address the audience with. Oh, everyone still went into a frenzy whenever she'd perform her signature songs but you could see that there really wasn't an attempt to make a connection. The only words I remember her saying were "thank you" - over and over again. Tsk, tsk, tsk. Maybe someone should tell her learning the ropes of stage repartee is a must if she wants to be a successful concert artist. It was so much more fun when SP came back to perform at the end since they came off as warmer and more sincere. Meantime, guess I better start saving for when they come back for their solo concert sometime this year...=)
On a sadder note, the pope's health has taken a turn for the worse. CNN reports have it that he is close to death as his bodily functions are beginning to fail. He is still lucid but slips into unconsciousness from time to time. Let's continue to pray, though. A miracle may still happen.
