Takagism Chain Mail
I wonder if any one of you has received an email that goes,
"Dear Friends,
Here is an extremely difficult IQ puzzle for you to solve. Only 4,000 people in the whole world can figure it out. So, if you do escape from the room, then you are a genius! There are 13 items hidden in this room in order to let you get out of it. If you found: 0-6 items, your IQ is very low, you're a total idiot; 6-8 items, you have a low IQ, you are an idiot; 9-10 items, you are normal; 11-12 items, your IQ is high or above the average; 13 items found and you are able to get out of the room, then you can count yourself among the 4,000 people in the world who CAN do it."
Vanity dictated that I try it to test my mettle. For crying out loud, who wants to be counted among the total idiot to just average IQ percentile? Found the 12 items easily but got stumped on the 13th item. Minutes ticked by and still no 13th item in sight! Just so I could share the frustration with someone else, I forwarded the mail to my other officemates so they could take a crack at it. Lo and behold, everyone else had the same problem. One officemate then said her brother had successfully gotten out of the room a few minutes after she had forwarded the same mail to him. She said the key was in the document. So we feverishly tried the html code contained therein and got - nothing! After several tries, we were finally able to open the door but not without searching the net for some clues.
I, along with most of my officemates, refuse to accept this as an IQ test. It was more of a challenge of looking for resources to solve the puzzle. Don't you think a true test of brainpower should involve just thinking things through in your head without the aid of the internet? Well whatever! It was still fun for the most part.
Here's the game http://flash.qbol.net/pl;p/youxi/images/04042203.swf and the spoiler: http://selend.beigetower.org/takagism.htm.
