Passion of the Christ
One word, people, INTENSE! For those of you expecting to see a rerun of all those old movies about Jesus shown on TV each season of Lent, boy, will you be surprised. I had prepared myself to see a "bloody" movie but this went way beyond what I expected...It took quite a lot of effort not to look away from the scourging scene as what Jesus had to endure was so excruciatingly depicted. It was that powerful and moving.
Casting was superb - Jim Caviezel should get top acting honors for this one. His portrayal put the rest of those who had gone before him to shame. Mary was very effective as well. For all the controversy that this film has generated, one thing is clear, the Son of Man took on all that pain and suffering, not to achieve greatness, but to save the world. Should be something to ponder about this Holy Week, regardless of one's chosen religion...
