The "Enchanted" Kingdom
A long time ago, in a place far, far away (hey, Sta. Rosa, Laguna is not within walking distance so this is applicable), a consortium decided to develop the Philippine version of Disneyland to address the need for a fun and relatively affordable park for both childern and adults alike to enjoy.
Last Saturday, got to experience what EK had to offer (again) after several years that I had stayed away. Had a blast as my younger sister and I walked around Portabello, The Jungle Outpost and the Spaceport (gadzooks, am sounding like a damn guide). Good thing we got there in the morning as the queues weren't as horrendous as they came to be in the afternoon. (Two hours to battle the rapids of Rio Grande under the full-on heat of the summer sun is not my idea of fun, sweetie!) Rode pretty much everything - got drenched by Log Jam (twice), was air-dried by The Wheel Of Fate, zipped around the Kart Trak, was flipped over by the Space Shuttle, sat through the 4D show. Was just disappointed that I missed out on my fave, Anchors Aweigh, as it was closed down for the day to allow for the fireworks set-up...
Despite 9 years, the place still hadn't lost its' charm. Sure, the mascots, particularly the resident clown, could be annoying at times but then again, just plant my butt in any amusement park and I will happily forget the passing of time...Course, it ain't as grand as Anaheim's main attraction but judging from the excitement you could feel pulsating from the throng of people who occupied almost all the available floor space, it really didn't matter much. At sunset, people came by the multitude - in anticipation of the fireworks competition later on in the night that saw everyone oooh and aaaah in unison at each choreographed play of light. Got home pooped and sleepy but definitely grateful to have rediscovered this magical place.
As my little contribution to promoting Philippine tourism, browse through http://www.enchantedkingdom.com.ph/.
Maybe it'll entice you to visit the real thing. For the life of me, can't get the jingle out of my head so I want everyone else to catch LSS..."Every day, every day, the magic is here; It's time to celebrate the magic we feel..."
